Follow Up & Employee Reintegration

Follow up is a key component to the success of your Drug Free Workplace Program. You must continue to observe and document job performance. Ensuring that the expectations and deadlines that you and the employee agreed upon are met. Schedule follow up meetings to assist the employee in keeping on track with their goals. If performance improves then continue to monitor and document job performance as with any other employee. Should expectations not be reached or should the employee refuse to acknowledge or correct their performance, take the appropriate disciplinary actions stated within your company policies. Remember to document each and every meeting you have with the employee as well.

Employee reintegration may be necessary when the employee chooses a treatment program that takes them away from the work site. Employees who are in either inpatient or outpatient treatment program need to know that they are accountable for their job performance as any other employee. Reasonable accommodations may need to be made such as a flexible work schedule so that the employee may attend to treatment. Both you and the employee need to have a clear understanding of the demands of the treatment program and the company policies that provide guidelines for the employees return to work.
