Supervisor Drug-Free Workplace Training

Supervisors assist in motivating employees to increase their quality of service and production. One of your roles as a Supervisor is to monitor your employees’ job performance. This is a critical role for the success of your company. This is where the Drug-Free Workplace Program can assist you in doing your job.

You are not expected to diagnose alcohol or other drug abuse or to provide treatment or counseling services to employees with job performance problems.

You are expected to observe and document job performance according to your company standards. Knowing your company’s policy is vital. Become familiar with the details of your policy; what it allows and what it prohibits; what are the procedures that need to be followed; and what the penalties are for an infringement of this policy.

As a supervisor you will most likely be asked questions about the policy. Know the policy and overall program well enough to fully explain it to your employees. You will get all sorts of questions, from, "Are there functions where alcohol is allowed?" to "Are there any restrictions for giving someone an aspirin?"

Your role, as the supervisor, is to observe and help improve employee job performance, to document work problems and successes, and to effectively implement your organization’s policies and programs.
